Bithoor or Brahmavart is an ancient and delightful pilgrimage center on the southern bank of River Ganges in Kanpur.

Bithoor Ghat has special historical and spiritual significance as being the venue of one of the few temples in Hindu folk lore, dedicated to Lord Brahma.

located Kanpur district, 23.4 kilometres (14.5 mi) by road north of the centre of Kanpur city, in Uttar Pradesh, India. Bithoor is situated on the right bank of the River Ganges, and is a centre of Hindu pilgrimage.

Bithoor was the centre for Indian War of Independence of 1857 as Peshwa Nana Sahib, a popular freedom fighter had his palace there and was based there.

Other historical people of that period in its history include Tatya Tope, Manikarnika, the young Rani of Jhansi and Azimullah Khan, a trusted advisor to Nana Sahib.

Baji Rao II was the last Peshwa of the Maratha Confederacy, and he finally surrendered to the British after the Third Anglo Maratha War and was forced to retire to exile in Bithoor on the outskirts of Kanpur, for an annual pension. Bithoor was then a marginal village in Uttar Pradesh, that was selected by the British to ensure, he did not cause damage to their interests. He lived in Bithoor with about 15,000 inhabitants, which saw the revival in economic fortunes of Bithoor till 1857.

Bithoor area is a municipality of the Kanpur metropolitan area and Kanpur Smart City. Traditionally Kanpur City is supposed to have been populated between Bithoor and Jajmau, alongside the southern banks of River Ganges.
